Colleen Renihan, Co-Principal Investigator & Music FacilitatorDr. Colleen Renihan, Associate Professor and Queen's National Scholar in Music Theatre and Opera at the DAN School of Drama and Music, is a musicologist, singer, and voice teacher. Colleen's research is focused on contemporary opera and music theatre in Canada and the US. She writes about the ways that memory and historical processes and forms can be represented and enlivened through opera and music theatre.

Julia Brook, Co-Principal Investigator & Music FacilitatorDr. Julia Brook is both Director and Associate Professor at the DAN School of Drama and Music, Queen's University. Julia is a music educator and pianist who has taught individuals of all ages and abilities, first in Manitoba and now in Ontario. Julia is looking forward to singing and dancing with the participants in Rise, Shine, Sing!

Wynnpaul Varela, Research ManagerDr. Wynnpaul Varela, Research Manager, holds a PhD in Education specializing in music studio instruction and how individuals of different ages take ownership of their music learning. Originally from the UK, Dr. Varela has lived and worked in England, France, and Japan, teaching in a wide range of educational settings.

Cheryl Bruce, Graduate Research AssistantCheryl Bruce joined the Rise, Shine, Sing! team in Fall of 2020. She is currently a PhD student in the Department of Cultural Studies at Queen's University. Cheryl's research examines the experiences of female leaders in the Canadian music industry. Cheryl is also a secondary and post-secondary school teacher, clarinetist, and former radio host.

Victoria Marmulak, Undergraduate Research AssistantOriginally from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and raised in SK and AB, Victoria J Marmulak is a final-year Drama and Music student at Queen's University. Victoria has spent her time at Queen's practicing theatre directing, dramaturgy, and producing and is now embracing studies of Canadian art and culture. She is extremely passionate about togetherness, connecting with nature, and music; she works to create more opportunities and spaces for people to play and laugh together. She is absolutely thrilled to be a part of the Rise, Shine, Sing! program!

Olivia Pellarin, Undergraduate Research AssistantOlivia is a second-year student completing her Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree, majoring in the Life Sciences. Olivia has dedicated over 600 hours supporting patients at both Humber River Hospital in North York and Providence Care Hospital in Kingston. With a passion for healthcare and a love for music, Olivia is excited to examine and explore the benefits that music and movement can have on the mental well-being and selfhood of individuals through the Rise, Shine, Sing! project.

Nicole Martin, Undergraduate Research AssistantNicole is a fourth-year music theatre student at Queen’s University, and she is thrilled to be returning to Rise, Shine, Sing! for her second year with the project. She loves music, theatre, and dance in all capacities and is excited to share that passion with all members of the program. Nicole believes that art has the power to transform the world and that everyone should be able to participate in it fully.
