Colleen Renihan, Co-Principal Investigator & Music FacilitatorDr. Colleen Renihan, Assistant Professor and Queen's National Scholar in Music Theatre and Opera at the DAN School of Drama and Music, is a musicologist, singer, and voice teacher. Colleen's research is focused on contemporary opera and music theatre in Canada and the US. She writes about the ways that memory and historical processes and forms can be represented and enlivened through opera and music theatre.

Julia Brook, Co-Principal Investigator & Music FacilitatorDr. Julia Brook is and Associate Professor at the DAN School of Drama and Music, Queen's University. Julia is a music educator and pianist who has taught individuals of all ages and abilities, first in Manitoba and now in Ontario. Julia is looking forward to singing and dancing with the participants in Rise, Shine, Sing!

Dr. Wynnpaul Varela holds a PhD in Education specializing in music studio instruction and age-related differences in musical self-regulation, or how individuals take ownership of their music learning. Originally from the UK, Dr. Varela has lived and worked in England, France, and Japan, teaching in a wide range of educational settings. Wynnpaul plays the piano, and is a diehard fan of Asian-style karaoke boxes.

Cheryl Bruce joined the Rise, Shine, Sing! team in Fall of 2020. She is currently a PhD student in the Department of Cultural Studies at Queen's University. Cheryl's research examines the experiences of female leaders in the Canadian music industry. Cheryl is also a secondary and post-secondary school teacher, clarinetist, and former radio host.

Lauren Fourney is a Concurrent Education student who is majoring in Psychology and hopes to teach at the Primary-Junior level. She is a British Association of Teachers of Dancing (BATD) certified Highland Dance teacher with a passion for both dance and music. Lauren is excited to be a part of the Rise, Shine, Sing! program.

Emma Patterson is a Concurrent Education student, studying Music, French, and Psychology, specializing in the music performance as a percussionist. Emma is a Teaching Assistant at Queen's and also provides private music instruction. She is looking forward to sharing and building on her music theatre experience through Rise, Shine, Sing!

Kristen Leboeuf completed an undergraduate degree in Stage and Screen and a graduate degree in Arts Administration at Queen’s University as well as training in Technical Direction at the Banff Centre. In addition to working with the Rise, Shine, Sing! team, Kristen is the Head of Marketing for Single Thread, Associate Artistic Producer of the Kingston Theatre Alliance, and Producer for Festival Players.

Sonja Niedermaier is a graduate of Queen’s university with a degree in Drama. She now works as a Kingston based theatre technician which includes work for the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts and the DAN school of Drama and Music. Sonja is also the Associate Technical Director for the Thousand Islands Playhouse.
