Colleen Renihan, Co-Principal Investigator & Music FacilitatorDr. Colleen Renihan, Associate Professor and Queen's National Scholar in Music Theatre and Opera at the DAN School of Drama and Music, is a musicologist, singer, and voice teacher. Colleen's research is focused on contemporary opera and music theatre in Canada and the US. She writes about the ways that memory and historical processes and forms can be represented and enlivened through opera and music theatre.

Julia Brook, Co-Principal Investigator & Music FacilitatorDr. Julia Brook is both Director and Associate Professor at the DAN School of Drama and Music, Queen's University. Julia is a music educator and pianist who has taught individuals of all ages and abilities, first in Manitoba and now in Ontario. Julia is looking forward to singing and dancing with the participants in Rise, Shine, Sing!

Wynnpaul Varela, Research ManagerDr. Wynnpaul Varela, Research Manager and Adjunct Assistant Professor, holds a PhD in Education specializing in music studio instruction and how individuals of different ages take ownership of their music learning. Originally from the UK, Dr. Varela has lived and worked in England, France, and Japan, teaching in a wide range of educational settings.

Cheryl Bruce, Graduate Research Assistant Cheryl Bruce joined the Rise, Shine, Sing! team in Fall of 2020. She is currently a PhD student in the Department of Cultural Studies at Queen's University. Cheryl's research examines the experiences of female leaders in the Canadian music industry. Cheryl is also a secondary and post-secondary school teacher, clarinetist, and former radio host.

Emma Patterson, Undergraduate Research AssistantEmma Patterson is a Concurrent Education percussion student in the DAN School of Drama and Music, also studying French and Psychology. Emma is the Academics Commissioner in the DAN School Undergraduate Society, she is a member of Queen's Bands Drum Corps, and she was a drummer in the 2022 Fort Henry Guard. She is looking forward to sharing and building on her music theatre experience through Rise, Shine, Sing!

Victoria is extremely passionate about making the world and the arts more accessible. She works to create more opportunities and spaces for everyone to express themselves through and within art. Benjamin Ma, Undergraduate Research AssistantBenjamin Ma is a third-year concurrent education student majoring in Drama at Queen's University. He works at the hospital and is the co-producer of the Dan Studio Series. Ben is ecstatic to be on this year's Rise, Shine, Sing! Team, and to continue developing deeper relationships with music, theatre, and their ability to bring people together.

She works as a barista and teachers assistant, and she can't wait to sing and dance with you in Rise, Shine, Sing! Hanne specializes in voice, and teaches many young voice students of her own under Harmony in the Home located in Oakville ON.
